The first night we stayed in Magome Juku town. The hostel we stayed in was Magome Chaya, which was full of travelers about to embark on the Nakasendo Trail.
We woke up to a rainy day. Rain or shine we decided we were going to go for it!
Most of the trail is paved like so. It was slippery in the rain, but it wasn't too bad.
At the midway point between Magome and Tsumago, there is a teahouse. You can grab some green tea for free. I also picked up some origami!

Lots of the shops were closed in Tsumago unfortunately. We were able to grab coffee and a snack from an open cafe.
We spent the night in Kiso Fukushima at a nice ryokan.

We took the train to Narai-Juku, another well preserved postal town on the Nakasendo trail.
Then we made our way to Matsumoto and stayed at the Matsumoto Jujo hotel. It's also a very cool bookstore.
